Drug charges filed against Cowboys defensive end Peppi Zellner last week were dropped on Monday, according to authorities.
Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick stated that Zellner’s brother, Mannon Lee Zellner, gave a sworn statement that Peppi did not know he had drugs in his possession. He also admitted to throwing the contraband out of the car window.
"Peppi's brother gave a sworn statement that Peppi was not aware the drugs were on his brother's person," Sheriff Bittick said. "His brother admitted to throwing the drugs out of the car."
The brothers were arrested last week and charged on Friday with possession with intent to distribute.
Zellner’s agent, Harold Lewis, contended from the beginning that this was not what it appeared.
Zellner was visiting his hometown in Georgia when the arrests occurred.
According to Lewis, Zellner was there in part because his mother wanted him to talk to his brother about getting clean and straightening out his life.
Zellner was a fourth-round draft pick for the Cowboys in 1999 out of Fort Valley State. He is a free agent and does not appear to be in the future plans for the Cowboys.
