Cowboys’ linebacker coach Gary Gibbs went to Oklahoma to be with his wife and daughter, who were hospitalized after a one-car crash.
Jeanne Gibbs, the coach’s wife, is listed in serious condition after being in surgery for over five hours. His daughter, Whitely, is listed in fair condition.
One passenger, 22-year old Austin McKaig, died at the scene. His mother, Janis McKaig, was also hospitalized in serious condition.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 when Jeanne Gibbs swerved to miss an animal in the road. The vehicle rolled twice, throwing Austin McKaig from the vehicle.
Gibbs came to the Cowboys last season and was one of five coaches that Bill Parcells retained after being hired this year. He served as head coach for the University of Oklahoma for six seasons from 1989-94.
